Swedish plans to shut down retail pharmacies: 4 things to know

Seattle-based Swedish Medical Center plans to close its retail pharmacies, according to a KOMO report.

Here are four things to know about the plans.

1. Swedish pharmacies are expected to close before the end of 2016.

2. More than 80 people work at the four locations where Swedish pharmacies are set to close, according to the report. However, a medical center spokesperson said in the report, it has not yet been determined how many pharmacy employees might be affected by layoffs.

3. Commenting on the decision, the medical center spokesperson said the benefit of providing the retail pharmacies does not outweigh the costs.

4. Once the pharmacies close, Swedish will still provide medications to patients admitted to its hospitals, according to the medical center.
