7 latest healthcare layoffs

The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review so far in December. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Hennepin County Medical Center to cut up to 275 jobs to balance budget
Minneapolis-based Hennepin County Medical Center's workforce will be reduced under a budget approved by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners, according to the Star Tribune. The safety-net hospital will eliminate up to 275 full-time positions in 2017 to balance its budget.

2. Pocono Medical Center to lay off 61 RNs
East Stroudsburg, Pa.-based Pocono Medical Center plans to lay off 61 registered nurses to cut costs as inpatient volumes dwindle, according to the Pocono Record. The planned layoffs represent about 2 percent of Pocono's total workforce.

3. Adventist hospital lays off 16 employees: 3 things to know
Feather River Hospital in Paradise, Calif., part of Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health, has laid off 16 employees to cut costs, according to a KHSL-TV report. The layoffs affected 16 employees out of the hospital's workforce of about 1,100.

4. Jackson Health cuts employees amid funding insecurity: 4 things to know
Administrators at Miami-based Jackson Health System said the organization laid off fewer than 25 full-time employees in November, according to a Miami Herald report. Employees affected by the layoffs were primarily in human resources and business development departments, Jennifer Piedra, a Jackson spokeswoman, said in a written statement obtained by the Miami Herald.

5. Baxter lays off 12 employees: 5 things to know
Baxter, a hospital and renal product manufacturer based in Deerfield, Ill., has laid off 12 employees at its facility in Bloomington, Ind., reports The Herald-Times. The layoff affects 12 out of 650 employees in the Bloomington facility.

6. Upper Allegheny Health System lays off 18 employees
Olean, N.Y.-based Upper Allegheny Health System laid off 18 employees, including various management positions. The layoffs accounted for about 1.5 percent of the health system's 1,400 employees, according to the Olean Times Herald. The layoffs include seven positions at Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital, five positions at Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center and six other positions in the health system's support departments.

7. 50 workers laid off at Good Shepherd: 4 things to know
Longview, Texas-based Good Shepherd Health System laid off about 50 employees, according to a Longview News-Journal report. The layoffs affect clinical and non-clinical employees at the flagship Longview medical center and its counterpart in Marshall, Texas.
