2 LifePoint hospitals to lay off 158 employees

SOVAH Health-Martinsville (Va.) and SOVAH Health-Danville (Va.), which are both owned by Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health, will lay off a combined 158 employees in November, according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notices filed with the state.

The Danville hospital, formerly Danville Regional Medical Center, will lay off 91 employees Nov. 6, while the Martinsville hospital, formerly Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, will lay off 67 workers. The hospitals changed names this year after they joined to form SOVAH Health, a regional medical center.

In a statement to Becker's Hospital Review, LifePoint said the contract for environmental services and food services at the two hospitals will transition to a new company, HHS, on Nov. 6. When the transition takes place, workers in those departments will no longer be employed by the hospital or the current services provider. However, all affected employees "will be offered employment through HHS at their current salary, subject to customary employment screenings," according to LifePoint.

"HHS is an industry leader in managing EVS and Dietary services for hundreds of healthcare facilities across the United States, including several other LifePoint facilities," LifePoint said. "We, along with the local leadership team at Sovah Health, are extremely proud of the work these departments do to support physicians, staff and patients, and we are confident HHS shares our commitment to employees."
