Ohio's Fairview Hospital to Undergo $76M Expansion

Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, has announced a $76 million renovation and construction project to modernize the 120-year-old hospital, according to a Crain's Cleveland Business news report.

The 125,000-square-foot expansion project is set to begin at the end of March. By the end of the project, the hospital will feature a new 52-bed emergency department and a 26-bed intensive care unit. The hospital will also add another 25,000-square-foot space that is expected to be done in early 2013, according to the report.

The hospital expansion was planned to address capacity concerns. According to the news report, the current emergency department was built to accommodate 35,000 patient visits every year. In 2009 alone, the emergency department had 69,000 patient visits.
