Ascension Health names Bonnie Phipps senior VP, group operating executive

Bonnie Phipps has accepted a new role as senior vice president and group operating executive for St. Louis-based Ascension Health, effective May 1, 2015.

Here are six things to know about Ms. Phipp's new role and her professional background.

1. In this role Ms. Phipps directly oversees the presidents of seven ministry markets of Ascension Health: Amsterdam, N.Y.; Baltimore; Binghamton, N.Y.; Bridgeport, Conn.; Lewiston, Idaho; Pasco, Wash.; and Washington, D.C., according to Ascension Health.

2. As group operating executive, Ms. Phipps will provide both strategic and operations-related leadership for these ministry markets, including effective partnerships with other healthcare systems, physician groups and community organizations.

3. Ms. Phipps had served as ministry market leader over the Ascension Health Ministries in Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Kansas City, Mo.; Pasco, Wash.; and Lewiston, Idaho, in addition to serving as president and CEO of Saint Agnes HealthCare in Baltimore.

4. Patrick Mutch, Saint Agnes executive vice president of physician and strategic services, will serve as interim President and CEO of Saint Agnes while a national search is conducted for a new leader for that ministry market. 

5. Prior to joining Saint Agnes in January 2006, Ms. Phipps served as president and CEO of Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.

6. She also served as the president and CEO of the now defunct Marietta, Ga.-based PROMINA Health System and as CFO at DeKalb Medical Center and Egleston Children’s Hospital, both in Atlanta.
