VA notifies 724 St. Louis veterans of compromised PHI

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' St. Louis Health Care System is notifying 724 veterans that their protected health information may have been compromised, according to KFVS12.

A former VA St. Louis Health Care System employee gave documents with patient information to another employee who was not involved in medical care, KFVS12 reports. The employee has since been terminated.

To address this issue, VA St. Louis Health Care System is sending each affected veteran a letter to explain their PHI may have been compromised. The health system also notified the VA Office of Inspector General to aid in the investigation, according to KSDK-TV.
