Wauwatosa-based Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is now using an app to aid emergency department physicians and paramedics in pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The smartphone or tablet app, called the First Five Minutes app, was launched as a collaboration between University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's App Brewery, Milwaukee-based Medical College of Wisconsin and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. For the project, the App Brewery — which employs six undergraduate and graduate students — coded the app, while Medical College of Wisconsin provided funding and owns the intellectual property, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Physicians input the child's age or weight to receive a chart with standardized medication doses. The goal is to decrease response time; previously, providers would have had to calculate the dosage themselves or relied on their memory. Although the app is in a limited trial run, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, its collaborators expect it to be publicly available later this year.
