UNLV School of Medicine to integrate Epic EHR into curriculum

Through a partnership with University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, UNLV School of Medicine, also in Las Vegas, will implement Epic's EHR, reports The Rebel Yell, the university's newspaper.

University Medical Center will help UNLV School of Medicine implement the EHR, according to the report.

Barbara Atkinson, founding dean of UNLV School of Medicine, said in a newsletter it's critical for medical students to become familiar with EHRs to help improve care continuity.

"It has become essential for physicians to keep a permanent patient record that can be shared easily with patients and healthcare providers," she said in the newsletter, according to the report. "Medical students must know how to use EHRs today so they can help improve the continuity of care for patients as they seek care from one provider to the next and in different settings."
