NewYork-Presbyterian launches 10-week pediatric app design challenge

NewYork-Presbyterian challenging IT designers to produce apps and games for a segment of the patient population that's underserved when it comes to healthcare tech: Children.

The InnovateNYP: Pediatric App Challenge is a 10-week long event that begins the weekend of March 12 and includes a separate hackathon and challenge. NewYork-Presbyterian is encouraging participants in both events to work in groups of eight, and requires each team to use HL7's Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources standards for data exchange between EHRs as the backbone of their innovations.

Three winning hackathon teams will be awarded a total of $10,000 and three challenge winners will be awarded a total of $40,000. Teams are encouraged to participate in both events.

"Engaging the tech community represents a tremendous opportunity to develop new solutions in pediatrics," Daniel Barchi, CIO of NewYork-Presbyterian, said in a statement. "Following the success of our hackathon and challenge over the past two years, we felt it was again the right time to tap into innovative talent at the hospital and in the tech community. We look forward to seeing their creative ideas."
