Nebraska consumers hit by scammers using BCBS-branded emails to offer inexpensive insurance

The Nebraska Attorney General's Office warned consumers about scammers impersonating Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska and offering health plans significantly below market value.

The Florida-based scammers are using fake Google and Manta listings with a BCBS' logo, web address and a fake address in Omaha. BCBSNE-hired investigators suspect the scam is associated with Hollywood, Fla.-based company Simple Health.

Affected consumers reported the company charges their credit card monthly but does not provide insurance cards or any proof of coverage. Individuals also reported difficulty with canceling service.

The state attorney general's office said affected consumers should contact the agency's consumer protection division.
