Health IT tip of the day: Start with open communication

Many IT projects fail due to a lack of communication between stakeholders which is critical in implementing a new health IT system.

Amit Trivedi, program manager of healthcare for ICSA Labs in Mechanicsburg, Pa.: Stakeholders who feel valued and understand the purpose of the project are more invested in its success. Health IT leaders should take the time to define and share their vision for the project in order to achieve buy-in for goals and to ensure that resources are available for training and ongoing support before and after the system goes live. It's also necessary to provide stakeholders regular updates and use a variety of methods to collect and share feedback along the way including your board, insurance providers, medical staff and patients.
