FTC releases data breach response guide

The Federal Trade Commission has developed a guide and other materials to help businesses respond to data breaches.

The “Data Breach Response: A Guide for Business,” as well as an accompanying video and business blog, aim to help businesses figure out what steps to take and whom to contact following a cyberattack. The key steps suggested in the guide include securing physical areas, cleaning up your website and providing breach notification. The guide also includes a template for a breach notification letter.

Additionally, the guide suggests assembling a team of experts to help your organization respond appropriately to a data breach.

The guide and video are in the public domain and users can download them for free.
