Former Facebook CFO launches health tech startup

A new health technology startup company co-founded by a former Facebook executive seeks to use analysis and technology to better coordinate care for individuals with behavioral health issues.

The startup, Lyra Health, is co-founded by David Ebersman, former CFO of Facebook and Genentech.

"Genentech taught me about helping patients. Facebook taught me about the power of technology to change the world. We look forward to combining the two to build another great company at Lyra Health," Mr. Ebersman said in a statement.

Lyra Health plans to develop a technology platform that will work with employers, providers and payers to increase access to behavioral health care as well as ensure individuals are receiving appropriate treatment.

"Left untreated, behavioral health conditions create enormous suffering for patients and their families. Ignoring their needs ultimately costs health plans, self-insured enterprises, and our health care system billions of dollars every year," said Dena Bravata, MD, CMO and co-founder of Lyra Health, in a statement. "It's both a moral and economic imperative that we fix this problem."

Lyra Health is headquartered in Burlingame, Calif.
