Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi receives HIMSS Stage 6 award

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates has achieved the HIMSS EMR Adoption Model Stage 6, an international benchmark for the use of advanced IT to improve patient care.

EMRAM was developed by HIMSS Analytics in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of EHR systems for hospitals in order to review the implementation and utilization of IT applications.

"Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is one of the most impressive hospitals I have visited around the world," John H. Daniels, global vice president, Healthcare Advisory Services Group, HIMSS Analytics, said in a statement. "They have replicated many of the highly successful processes used in the Cleveland Clinic main campus in the U.S., and it shows. They are virtually paperless, they use unit-dose barcodes on all medications and blood products, and all clinical documentation is completed in the EMR with extensive clinical decision support capabilities. This is a highly IT-advanced healthcare organization already well on its way to achieving Stage 7."

The 24-story hospital, now staffed by more than 3,000 clinical and non-clinical caregivers, will be officially recognized at the HIMSS Middle East UAE eHealth Week 2015, taking place December 7-10.
