Allscripts unveils patient self-pay capabilities

A new tool from Chicago-based Allscripts assists patients through the self-pay process by offering an online payment option in the patient portal.

Allscripts indicates this tool is a response to changing market conditions where more patients are selecting high deductible health plans and bearing more of the costs for their care.

Additionally, as patients pay more of their healthcare costs, it becomes a revenue risk for providers. Allscripts seeks to simplify that process for patients and reduce risk for providers.

Allscripts Payerpath solutions are built within the vendor's patient engagement platform Allscripts FollowMyHealth, which the vendor says provides greater convenience and a streamlined process for patients.

"Providers should empower patients with simple-to-use options for engaging with their healthcare information and payment information in one place," said Faisal Mushtaq, Allscripts senior vice president and general manager of the payer and life sciences business. "Leveraging the type of payment experiences patients are used to can help providers receive funds more quickly."
