New details released on Dallas hospital closure

Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas, which shut down Oct. 30 after failing to make payroll, may be able to reopen, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The chairman of the management company for the physician-owned Forest Park system, Todd Furniss, told The Dallas Morning News that the management company is considering filing for bankruptcy reorganization to obtain financing to reopen the Dallas hospital.

In a layoff letter sent to Texas officials, the operator of the hospital said the shutdown "is expected to be permanent." However, concerning the word "permanent," Mr. Furniss told The Dallas Morning News, "If you don't know where your money is going to come from, you have to put that down." He still thinks the hospital could reopen in "a matter of days" if new financing can be secured, according to the report.
