Medicaid, CHIP enrollment up 20.3%

More than 11.7 million additional people enrolled in Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program between Oct. 1, 2013 and February of this year, with enrollment up approximately 20.3 percent over the average monthly enrollment for July through September 2013, according to a recent CMS report.

In states that haven't expanded Medicaid, enrollment in the two programs was up more than 8 percent compared to the baseline period, and in expansion states enrollment increased almost 27 percent, according to the report.

The 50 states, and Washington, D.C., that provided enrollment data for February 2015 reported more than 70.5 million people were enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP, with 561,609 additional people enrolled in the programs in February 2015 as compared to January 2015.
