Former Bowie Memorial Hospital expected to reopen soon

The former Bowie (Texas) Memorial Hospital is closer to reopening as Central Hospital of Bowie.

The hospital has received its state hospital license and is pursuing other certifications, including those necessary for Medicare and Medicaid, according to a Times Record News report.

The hospital is looking at a possible September or early fall opening.

The sale of the former Bowie Memorial Hospital property was approved last spring, after hospital board members signed a contract to sell the facility to Hashmi Group for $1.5 million. Bowie Memorial, which closed last November, accepted Hashmi Group's takeover bid in February.

Hashmi Group has said it expects to reopen the hospital providing basic core services, such as an emergency room, X-ray and lab services, according to the report.

"There is so much that happens behind the scenes. It may seem like it is just reopening with a new name, but it is more. Developing the internal infrastructure is critical to make a hospital run," Hashmi Group CEO, Hasan F. Hashmi, MD, told the Times Record News. "We want to iron out all potential concerns before we see any patients. I want the focus to be high quality care not infrastructure."
