Dignity Health plans 4 neighborhood hospitals in Las Vegas area: 5 things to know

San Francisco-based Dignity Health, in partnership with Texas-based hospital manager Emerus, plans to build four smaller neighborhood hospitals across the Las Vegas Valley, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report.

Here are five things to know about the planned medical centers.

1. Dignity Health plans to build the facilities in the next couple years.

2. Each of the medical centers will have six to eight inpatient beds, create more than 100 permanent jobs and cost about $25 million to build, according to the report.

3. The facilities will also feature primary care offices, full emergency departments, diagnostic imaging services and lab services.

4. Dignity Health's goal in building the medical centers is to shift less critically ill patients away from Dignity Health's regional acute care centers, said Brian Brannman, Dignity Health Nevada's senior vice president of operations, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Dignity Health officials also want residents in underserved neighborhoods to have access to more primary care close to them, according to the report.

5. According to the report, the first neighborhood hospital will break ground March 2 and open in 2017 in North Las Vegas.
