County in Virginia courts new medical billing contracts

Pittsylvania County, Va., is considering proposals from firms to provide billing and collections services for its medical transport system, reports GoDanRiver.

Below are three things to know about the bidding process.

1. The county's contract with MED3000, which provided billing services for the county since 2011, is set to expire April 11.

2. In Pittsylvania County there are 13 medical transport providers, six of which have been contracted under the county's billing system for "soft billing" services. Soft billing practices include sending three statements to patient accounts at 30-day intervals.

3. The county is seeking proposals for provision of software and licenses, supervision, labor, equipment, products and materials necessary to provide Pittsylvania County with comprehensive, automated billing and collections services. The contract runs for three years. The county paid MED3000 a service fee at 5.9 percent of the agencies collections, according to the article.
