Carolinas HealthCare operating income surges in Q1

Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System reported operating income of $71.6 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2015, up from $10.5 million in the same period a year ago, according to a Charlotte Business Journal report.

 

The system, which owns or manages 39 hospitals in the Carolinas, released its financial results at the quarterly meeting of the system's board of commissioners, according to the report.

The system reported net operating revenue of $2.2 billion in the first quarter, up from about $2 billion in the same period last year.

Carolinas HealthCare's net income increased to $121.7 million, up 52 percent from the same period of the year prior, according to the report.

Outpatient volumes, including emergency room visits, were up compared to the same period of last year, and inpatient discharges increased 1.2 percent in the first quarter of fiscal 2015, compared to the same period of the year prior, according to the report.
