10 recent donations, grants to healthcare organizations

Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.

Here are 10 recent donations, grants or gifts given to healthcare organizations by various entities in the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Cleveland Clinic receives $3.4M NIH grant
Cleveland Clinic received a $3.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to create a tool to predict individual risk in epilepsy surgery.  

2. Great Falls Clinic to use $1M donation to build housing for cancer patients
Great Falls (Mont.) Clinic received a $1 million gift from local philanthropist Carmen Poulsen to help construct free housing for cancer patients who travel to Great Falls for care, according to the Great Falls Tribune.

3. UF Health researchers receive $2.6M NIH grant to pursue MS vaccine
Two researchers at University of Florida Health in Gainesville received a $2.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the development of a multiple sclerosis vaccination. 

4. Children's Hospital of Wisconsin receives $1.2M donation
Milwaukee-based Children's Hospital of Wisconsin received a $1.2 million donation from the Windhover Foundation to support ongoing research at the Herma Heart Center, according to Milwaukee Business News.

5. Navicent Health to rename children's hospital after donation
The Macon, Ga.-based Children's Hospital Navicent Health received two donations totaling $6 million to help finance construction of the hospital at a new location in Macon, according to The Telegraph

6. Arkansas college receives anonymous $15M donation to expand medical school
The Arkansas Colleges of Health Education in Fort Smith received an anonymous $15 million donation, which will fund an expansion for its new Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine.  

7. Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation receives $1M donation
Pomona, N.J.-based Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation received a $1 million donation from James Klinghoffer, a local philanthropist, to establish a specialized neurological recovery center, according to the Press of Atlantic City.  

8. Kentucky hospital receives $658k grant to care for coal miners
Greenville, Ky.-based Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital received a $658,427 competitive grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration to continue providing health screenings for coal miners and purchase equipment for its Coal Miners Clinic. 

9. 4 medical institutions receive $500k to advance medical education
Four partnering medical institutions in Muncie, Ind., including IU School of Medicine-Muncie, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Foundation, Ball State University and Meridian Health Services, received a total of $500,000 from the Ball Brothers Foundation to improve medical education in the state, according to The Star Press.

10. MD Anderson UTHealth graduate school receives $10.5M donation
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Huston received a $10.5 million donation to fund student fellowships, research awards and the Dr. John J. Kopchick Research Symposium, according to the Houston Business Journal.
