Blue Shield of California introduces new HMO product centered around ACOs

Blue Shield of California has announced it will launch a new HMO product, which includes a network of healthcare providers that participate in the company's accountable care organizations program.

The new product, called Trio, offers employers a lower cost HMO option, as its premiums are 12 to 15 percent less than Blue Shield's Access+ HMO. Trio is also aimed at providing members with access to high-quality and well-coordinated healthcare options.

"With this new product offering, employers can offer the Trio ACO HMO option alongside a traditional HMO or PPO plan from Blue Shield, giving their employees a lower cost option with an improved patient experience," said Janet Widmann, executive vice president of Blue Shield.

Trio will be available to small and large employers on Jan. 1, 2015.
