Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth and Pueblo (Colo.) Community College’s nursing program have teamed up to create the Ascend Career Program to help strengthen the local healthcare workforce.
The program offers Pueblo-based UCHealth Parkview Medical Center staff the opportunity to enroll in PCC’s associate degree in nursing program, with UCHealth covering the cost of books and tuition. It currently has 122 Parkview employees receiving educational support across multiple fields, according to a Sept. 11 news release shared with Becker’s.
UCHealth Parkview and PCC have also partnered several times in the past.
“This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to empowering aspiring health professionals,” Cheryl Gomez, PCC’s dean of medical and behavioral health, said in the release. “We are thrilled to be a part of a program that supports people in this community with the education, training and support they need to thrive. Through PCC’s rigorous nursing curriculum, state-of-the-art simulation experiences, and dedicated faculty mentorship, Ascend participants will be guided along a strong pathway to becoming skilled, community-rooted nurses.”
