Midlothian, Va.-based Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center was one of seven sites statewide that held a recruiting fair Feb. 19. At the fair, hiring managers interviewed candidates, discussed sign-on incentives and even made job offers.

The chief nursing officer of Bons Secours Mercy’s Richmond Market, Brenda Woodcock, RN, emphasized that new strategies are needed to recruit new candidates to healthcare.

“This is a good opportunity to really meet our communities where they are,” she said of the fair.

Offering training and education opportunities is a big part of the new strategy, as well as looking for candidates with a “servant heart.”

Ramar Ghattafs was one of the people who showed up to the fair with no medical license but instead with experience in restaurant work and a desire to start a career in nursing. Ms. Woodcock told News 6 that Ms. Ghattafs will likely receive a call with an offer this week.
