An affordable housing project will bring 83 new homes to an underutilized building on the campus of NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in New York City.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has committed to advancing Just Home, a supportive housing project for formerly incarcerated individuals with complex medical needs, according to a Jan. 19 health system news release.
The project will convert the building into 83 affordable apartments. Just Home is part of the city’s Justice-Involved Supportive Housing initiative and will receive $1 million in annual funding. The Fortune Society will serve as both developer and service provider.
It was originally approved by the NYC Health + Hospitals Board in 2024 and the City Council in 2025. The previous mayoral administration said it would not move forward with the project, a decision that was reversed by the Mamdani administration, the release said.
NYC Health + Hospitals’ Housing for Health program, which served nearly 1,600 individuals in 2025, will coordinate care for Just Home tenants. Half of existing supportive housing residents under the initiative have remained housed for 6-10 years, and 87% had no arrests while in housing.
