How ‘re-recruiting’ can stop employee turnover

By viewing the hiring of a new employee as only the start of the recruitment process, organizations can hold onto their staff longer despite record high turnover rates, The Wall Street Journal reported June 10.

This process, termed “re-recruiting” by the article’s author Tom Gimbel, chief executive of staffing company LaSalle Network, shows new hires that they’ve valued. To do this, he suggests that employers work to increase employee engagement in their first few months.

He encourages organizations to let tenured staff tell stories about their career paths to help new employees view their own roles through a long-term lens, explain company culture early on and involve executive leadership in the process. He also recommends prioritizing empathy for the new hires, understanding their concerns and remembering what it was like joining a company.
