Healthcare adds 31k jobs in December; hospital job growth picks up

The healthcare industry added 31,400 jobs in December, with hospitals contributing 12,400 to that total, according to Friday’s jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Ambulatory healthcare services showed the most employment growth in the industry last month, adding 14,800 jobs. Hospitals came next, adding 12,400 jobs in December compared with the 2,200 jobs hospitals added in November.

Overall, healthcare added 300,000 jobs in 2017, down from the 379,000 healthcare jobs added the year prior, according to the BLS.
