Nurses allege staffing problems at University of New Mexico Hospital: 3 things to know

Some nurses at Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico Hospital are calling UNMH out for alleged staffing problems, according to a KUNM report.

Here are three things to know about the allegations and how the hospital is responding.

1. The nurses recently made the allegations at a news conference in front of the hospital.

2. They allege they are understaffed, overworked and overlooked by hospital managers, according to the report. At the news conference, Nurse Lorie MacIver claimed this keeps nurses from giving patients the care they need.

3. But UNMH defended staffing at the hospital in a statement. According to KUNM, hospital officials said staffing there is above the national average for teaching hospitals, and that they welcome discussing the issue with concerned nurses.
