Jackson Health Employees Await Final OK for Performance Bonuses

Thousands of employees at Miami-based Jackson Health System are set to receive a percent performance bonus if Miami-Dade County commissioners sign off on the arrangement next month, according to a Miami Herald report.

Jackson Health President and CEO Carlos Migoya said he promised employees a portion of any profit or budget surplus, making the pending bonus arrangement a "gain-sharing" payment, according to the report. The total share that will go to 10,000 employees is about $10.8 million, or 1.67 percent of payroll for the year that ended Sept. 30.

Mr. Migoya said Jackson Health employees have not received raises in the past three years. The hiatus is a concession from labor unions as management turned the hospital system around from the red in 2010.

This week, members of the Public Health Trust that runs Jackson Health passed the bonus plan with a 4-1 vote. It now requires a final sign-off from Miami-Dade commissioners, who are scheduled to meet March 4, according to the report.
