Dr. Marc Milano, the chief department of emergency medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Somerset, focuses in on 4 facets of emotional intelligence.

2. Self-Management – Controlling impulsive feelings and behaviors

3. Social Awareness – Understanding other’s emotions and needs (Think empathy.)

4. Relationship management – Recognizing how to develop and maintaing good relationships

Instead of just reacting to a situation, understand why certain actions came about. Was anger or frustration controlled? Could the situation been handled better with a more empathic tone?
