White House challenges 20 cities: Which can get most insurance sign-ups?

Twenty cities with some of the of the highest uninsured rates in the country face a challenge from the White House: Get the most people signed up for health insurance, get a visit from President Barack Obama and “bragging rights” to boot.

Here are the cities named in the White House’s Healthy Communities Challenge:

         Atlanta
         Milwaukee
         Charlotte, N.C.
         Nashville
         Chicago
         New Orleans
         Dallas
         Oakland, Calif.
         Denver
         Philadelphia
         Detroit
         Phoenix
         Great Falls, Mont.
         Richmond, Va.
         Kansas City, Mo.
         Salt Lake City
         Las Vegas
         Seattle
         Long Beach, Calif.
         Tampa, Fla.

Each is run by a Democratic or independent mayor, although most are in states with Republican governors.

President Obama appears to be taking a more personal approach to this open enrollment season than those past, according to The Hill. The third season is expected to be the toughest yet, with federal officials expecting less than 1 million new enrollees.
