The hospital’s $750 million plan would have doubled the hospital in size. However, village council members raised concerns over how the renewal plan would have impacted “the quality of life of neighboring residents and students,” according to the report. Specific concerns included threats to traffic, the village’s aquifer and the consequent impact to the structural integrity of nearby homes.
Some council members also voiced concerns over the city planning board’s “flawed” review process for the hospital’s expansion plans. Valley Hospital officials later expressed disappointment in the village council’s decision and announced they would “redouble our efforts to ensure that our community has the high-quality hospital it has come to expect and deserve.”
