Verizon CEO: We don’t need a move like AT&T, Comcast merger to stay competitive

Hans Vestberg, the newly appointed CEO of Verizon, said his company does not need to venture into the premium content business to succeed, according to CNBC.

Though competitor AT&T recently purchased Time Warner, and Comcast is looking to add British broadcaster Sky to its television holdings, Mr. Vestberg remained steadfast that Verizon’s network services are its main priority.

“Our network is our asset,” Mr. Vestberg told CNBC. “I think we have another way to deal with our assets, our distribution.”

Verizon’s push for 5G internet connection has the potential to “disrupt industries [and] change the way you’re thinking about technologies,” according to Mr. Vestberg, and the company plans to add Indianapolis to its list of three cities that have already received 5G residential broadband service by the end of 2018.
