University of Maryland Medical System Enters Partnership With Civista Medical Center

Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical System has reached a deal to partner with Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Md., and will provide the hospital with physicians, technology and specialists to help treat patients in Southern Maryland, according to a report in the Baltimore Business Journal.

According to the report, about 80 percent of specialty practices in Southern Maryland do not have enough physicians to meet patients’ demands, and the partnership between UMMS and Civista will provide the hospital with specialists, particularly in cardiology and obstetrics.

Financial details of the arrangement were not disclosed, but officials from Civista say the two-year management agreement could lead to a potential merger between the two systems.
