The heightened security measures served as a precaution to “safeguard…patients, visitors, faculty, staff and residents,” according to an official university release. The measures were lifted after the FBI concluded its investigation into the threat and the U.S. attorneys brought charges against a suspect behind the threat.
In addition to resuming normal operations, UCMC published an official note of gratitude to those who helped keep the university and medical center safe.
“We want to praise and thank FBI counterterrorism officials, Chicago Police Department, the University of Chicago Police Department and UCMC security for their incredible coordination and swift actions,” the statement reads.
