UCSF Medical Center/UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (San Francisco). Officials at UCSF Medical Center recognized the importance of sustainability and incorporated measures to ensure its UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay campus — completed in 2015 — utilized energy-saving initiatives to protect the environment. The medical center and children’s hospital have employed several practices with the goal of making the institution one of the first research universities to achieve carbon neutrality. UCSF has also engaged in energy, water and waste reduction initiatives that reduce operational expenses by more than $2 million per year. For its efforts, UCSF Health was named a 2017 Practice Greenhealth Greening the OR Recognition Award winner earlier this year.
