Tesla will suspend production at its factory for several days in order to upgrade its facilities in preparation for the increased workflow. The company increased production 400 percent in the first quarter of 2018 but missed its goals, which it attributed to problems in the factory.
“Starting today at Giga and tomorrow at Fremont, we will be stopping for three to five days to do a comprehensive set of upgrades. This should set us up for Model 3 production of 3,000 to 4,000 per week next month,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote in an email, according to Jalopnik. “Another set of upgrades starting in late May should be enough to unlock production capacity of 6000 Model 3 vehicles per week by the end of June.”
In the same email, Mr. Musk also said the Fremont factory and Gigafactory in Sparks, Nev., will hire a combined 400 workers per week for the next several weeks in order to reach production goals.
