The hospital aims to increase access to cardiac services. In 2010, 28 percent of Dubuque cardiac patients left the area to seek treatment. The cath lab will also target the cardiovascular mortality rate in the community, which is 9.7 percent higher than the statewide average, according to the release.
In addition, Dubuque’s population is growing and aging, driving up the demand for cardiac services.
