The nearly $21 million facility took almost 10 years of planning and was designed in response to the Sept. 11 attacks. The facility aims to train emergency personnel for a wide range of emergency situations, including terrorist attacks, natural disasters and more. New York University and the City University of New York collaborated on the project.
The facility features advanced technology and highly sophisticated mannequins — some costing as much as $250,000 — that can sweat, vomit and moan as responses.
