Study: Robotic Surgery No Better Than Open Surgery for Prostate Cancer

Robotic and open surgery for prostate cancer had similar rates of adverse effects, according to a study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Researchers studied the risks of problems with continence and sexual function after robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy compared to open radical prostatectomy in a sample of Medicare patients. They found no significant differences in risks of problems between robotic and open surgery.
