The center is the first in the nation to offer surgical care exclusively for the elderly. It is led by Mark R. Kaltic, MD, who is chief of surgery at Sinai Hospital.

The center’s clinical program will provide comprehensive screening and testing that will move beyond only preoperative heart and lung testing. It will include routine physical examinations and testing to evaluate frailty, cognition, fall risk and delirium risk, among other factors. This evaluation will also be studied to determine what factors are important in evaluating risk of surgery.
