Poll: Most California Voters Unaware of PPACA Exchange

Only 25 percent of California voters younger than 65 have heard a lot or some about the state’s new health insurance exchange, Covered California, according to a poll conducted by Field Research Corporation.

Additionally, the poll found just 18 percent of currently uninsured voters know a lot or some about the exchange, which will open for enrollment Oct. 1 under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Of those surveyed, 42 percent hadn’t heard anything about the exchange.

The poll also found 66 percent of Californians feel the state will successfully be able to implement the PPACA. However, only 50 percent think the state will be able to limit the rate increases health insurers can charge enrollees each year.

Earlier this month, California signed contracts with 12 health insurers confirming their participation in the state’s new health insurance exchange.
