The system, which was launched in the U.S. Nov. 27, is an implantable clip used in managing problems in a patient’s left atrial appendage. It is the only clip that can be recaptured, repositioned and redeployed after the initial deployment, according to a Jan. 8 hospital news release.
Cardiac surgeons completed the first successful case of implantation using a minimally invasive approach during a mitral valve repair procedure on a 75-year-old man. The patient received the clip the first day it became available in the U.S.
“Implanting the Penditure system during a minimally invasive mitral valve repair fixes two issues for the patient during one less traumatic procedure, leaving them with less pain and an easier recovery compared to surgery,” Yasir Abu-Omar, MD, surgical director of the Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Center and the Russ and Connie Lincoln Chair in Cardiovascular Innovation at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, said in the release.
