Nike hasn’t formally shared details of its contract with Mr. Kaepernick, but sources close to the deal say it includes a new apparel line for him as well as a contribution to his Know Your Rights charity, which raises awareness of higher education, self-empowerment and law enforcement interaction techniques.
The campaign’s tagline “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything,” is a nod to Mr. Kaepernick’s on-field protests and subsequent lack of NFL work since. He and his lawyers allege NFL owners have colluded to blackball him because of his protest.
Opponents of Mr. Kaepernick’s protests have criticized Nike for the move, though many others have commended the campaign.
