The health system plans to change the hospital’s name in June to recruit more academic professionals to the hospital. When the change is fully implemented, up to half of the hospital’s operations will be related to academics, according to the report. The rebranding effort also aims to more closely align Maryland General Hospital with the health system, with the hospital focusing particularly on the west Baltimore community, according to the report.

UMMS’ rebranding announcement coincided with an announcement of plans for a $50 million ambulatory care center at Maryland General Hospital, according to the report.
