A man called 911 at 9:53 a.m. claiming Dominican Hospital was mistreating and killing his wife, according to Santa Cruz County Sheriff Sgt. Chris Clark. The hospital was placed on lockdown shortly after the threat.

“He said he’s upset and said he’s going to bring a gun to Dominican Hospital. He claimed Dominican was killing his wife. He made threats to shoot up the hospital,” Mr. Clark told KSBW.

The lockdown was lifted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities said there is no evidence the man went to the hospital with a gun. Deputies will remain at the hospital to ensure safety of hospital staff and patients.

Hospital spokesperson Claire Henry said hospital operations were not affected during the lockdown.
