Brokers assist consumers in about 40 percent of plans sold on Access Health CT, Connecticut’s health insurance exchange, and their departure could affect enrollment next year, according to the report. If commissions are slashed, many brokers have said they will exit the exchange.
In February, Indianapolis-based Anthem said it would cut broker commissions next year in all state exchanges. Farmington, Conn.-based ConnectiCare has not reached a decision. However, final decisions on broker commissions will come in September when state regulators conclude their review of insurers’ premium rate requests.
