Around 11:30 a.m., a bird got into the power lines that provide electricity to the hospital, resulting in damage and a loss of electricity.
While backup generators kept the medical center’s surgery center and Medical Plaza 2 operating normally during the outage, the main hospital and Medical Plaza 1 experienced a loss of power.
“This doesn’t happen often, but we do generator checks every month to plan for an event like this, so we make sure our generators are running the equipment that needs to be running and that there’s no issues when that occurs,” said Trish Heath, emergency manager coordinator at St. Luke’s Magic Valley, according to KMTV.
Ms. Heath told KMTV the whole hospital does not run on a generator; instead, St. Luke’s keeps only essential devices and equipment on these generators.
Power was restored around 12:30 p.m. April 3.
