The three organizations signed a letter of intent to explore a collaboration in cancer care in October. This collaboration may include merging Charlotte Hungerford’s cancer treatment division with Yale-New Haven Hospital. If the merger occurs, Charlotte Hungerford will have to relocate its cancer center to within 35 miles of Yale-New Haven’s main campus, as required under federal law. The center is currently 44.9 miles from the campus.
Charlotte Hungerford has not chosen a new site, but plans to reuse the current space for other hospital services, according to the report.
